Week 1 NFL Roundup (before MNF)
Here's my Week 1 roundup before we get to the AFC West and NFC North matchups tonight on MNF (wrote this up for my league discussion board, thought I'd share it here):
Buffalo puts up impressive balanced numbers, the Jets and Miami go to the wire with the Jets pulling out the win with their new HOF QB, the Pats eek out a win over KC while losing their HOF QB, and suddenly the AFC East is looking interesting. Not dominant, but very interesting.
Dallas and Philly rolled (though to much lesser teams?), the Giants D looked fast (though to a new, wary offense), and the Skins have 'potential', showing that the NFC East could be the toughest division again this year.
The Cardinals, while some (me) say they should have put up bigger numbers against the Niners, put up a balanced offense and played enough to win. I think the Niners will be right there with them, and Seattle and St. Louis will be lucky to pull together 8 wins ... combined. The Rams were supposed to be better, last year was supposed to be a fluke, but they sure didn't show it. Wow. I didn't see enough of Seattle to say, but then maybe that's the point.
Does anyone else (besides Grace) remember the Titans winning 10 games and making the playoffs last year? Does anyone think they're better with Young injured and Collins leading the squad? Does anyone else believe in that run D that was pretty stout last year, and looked good again in Week 1? With Indy losing and looking vulnerable, and the Jags and Texans slow start, the AFC South could be interesting early.
Baltimore was lucky they played Cinci, and their D kept them in the game. Cinci was Cinci, nuff said. Cleveland's D won't win them any games, and they need to stop dropping catchable balls. The Steelers are going to roll the AFC North if they keep it together. That was impressive.
Atlanta?! Well, they were playing the Lions. I'll reserve judgement. Carolina put together a nice last minute win, and the Saints O looked as good as advertised. I didn't see the Saints/Bucs game, but the Bucs put up decent balanced numbers, they were playing the high powered Saints offense *shrug* the NFC South could be another interesting one to watch.
That lease the AFC West and the NFC North for MNF. Stay tuned!
